February is Spay & Neuter Awareness Month

February 1-28, 2026

Thanks to Cook County Government’s Spay and Neuter Rebate Program, Cook County residents can receive a $40 rebate for each spay or neuter surgery completed at Paws for a Cause Vet Care throughout the month of February!

After the $40 Cook County rebate, pricing starts at $85 for cats, $160 for male dogs, and $210 for female dogs.

Your pets must have a current Cook County rabies tag and be up to date on their rabies vaccine. If not, they can receive a rabies vaccine on the day of surgery. Please bring your rabies certificate at check-in.

You must present proof of Cook County residency at the time of drop-off (ex: drivers license or utility bill)

Additional fees may apply. Brachycephalic dogs require a pre-surgical exam, bloodwork, and take-home medication, and a $200 spay/neuter fee applies. Exotic cats require a pre-surgical exam, bloodwork, and proBNP test.

Discounts Available by County and City

Cook County Resident Spay / Neuter Program

Pet owners can bring their dogs and cats to participating veterinarians throughout Cook County to receive a $40 discount on spay or neuter services during the month of February.

How to Participate

No coupon is required, but the pet owner must live in Cook County. The County covers up to $40 off spaying and neutering per pet.

You must present proof of Cook County residency at the time of drop-off (ex: drivers license or utility bill)

To encourage more Cook County residents to participate in the program, the department has removed the two-pet-per-household limit and will now provide discounts for any number of cats and dogs in a household.

Additional Information

  • All pets must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccine and have a current Cook County rabies tag. Vaccination the day of surgery is permitted.
  • Discounts are one amount: $40.00 off for each animal whether it’s spayed or neutered. 
    • Residents will receive a $20 discount if the veterinarian office charges less than $40.
    • Residents will not receive a discount if the veterinarian office charges less than $20.
