Additional Info:

  • All giant breed patients are required to have a $55 consultation prior to scheduling their surgeries.
  • Due to shorter lifespan and increased risk of age-related health conditions common in giant breed dogs, pre-anesthetic blood work is mandatory for all patients weighing over 100 pounds and that are over 3 years old.
  • Bloodwork will vary in cost from $136 to $200. This screening helps us evaluate organ function, identify underlying medical concerns, and ensure the safest possible anesthesia and surgery experience for your pet.

Gastropexy

Giant breed dogs must be at least 2 years of age before undergoing a gastropexy procedure, as skeletal and physical growth may still be incomplete prior to this age

A gastropexy is another preventive service we provide for giant and deep-chested breed dogs. In this surgical procedure we attach the stomach to the body wall to help prevent twisting of the stomach. This procedure helps reduce the risk of gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), or “bloat,” a life-threatening condition that commonly affects large- and giant-breed dogs. While a gastropexy does not prevent gas buildup or bloating entirely, it significantly reduces the risk of a fatal stomach torsion and can be lifesaving for high-risk breeds. A gastropexy can often be performed at the same time asyour dog’s spay or neuter for added protection and convenience.
