Paws for a Cause Vet Care is thrilled to announce that we’re about to launch a major Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) initiative in Summit, Illinois! Our goal is to spay/neuter and vaccinate 250 feral cats in the area. Given Summit’s small size, we are confident this project will have a significant impact and help a large portion of the outdoor cat population in Summit.
Why Summit?
Summit has an exceptionally large population of feral cats. Cats can be found in every alley and on every street, which means this is an area in dire need of assistance and support.

How Will the Program Work?
With trapping assistance from cat caretakers and volunteers, our clinic will provide Summit’s outdoor cats with essential services–including spay/neuter surgery, anesthesia, rabies and FVRCP vaccines, an ear tip, a microchip, a pain injection, and an applied dose of Bravecto for parasite control–all for just $20 per cat.
Why is TNR so important?
TNR is crucial for several reasons. First and foremost, it helps prevent the birth of more kittens and curbs the continued growth of the feral cat population. But the benefits go beyond just population control.
For the cats themselves, spaying and neutering significantly improves their health and well-being. Male cats that are neutered are less likely to engage in aggressive territorial fights, reducing the risk of injury and the spread of viruses. Female cats, on the other hand, won’t face the risks of pregnancy and the complications of giving birth, which can be dangerous for both them and their kittens.
This project is about more than just numbers; it’s about creating a healthier, safer, happier environment for the cats and the community. We’re excited to get started and make a real difference in Summit!
