2026 Alley Cat Rescue’s Global Feral Fix Challenge

Paws for a Cause Vet Care has pledged to participate in Alley Cat Rescue’s Global Feral Fix Challenge to advocate for the use of humane management practices of feral or “community” cats.

A feral cat is simply a domestic cat that was born outside and has never lived with humans, or one that was a house cat, became lost, and went without human contact long enough to become unsocialized to humans. Feral cats revert to living on instinct and become less dependent on humans for survival. Feral simply means “untamed” or “undomesticated.”

Alley Cat Rescue

Trap-neuter-return (TNR) is the humane management of feral cat colonies, where cats are caught in traps, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped, and returned to the site. “TNR stabilizes populations at manageable levels and eliminates common neighborhood complaints regarding mating behaviors, like spraying and fighting,” said CEO and Founder of Paws for a Cause Vet Care, Kathi Daniels. “TNR helps cats become better neighbors.”

Since its launch in 2010, over 1,750 veterinary clinics from across all 50 US states, Antigua, Canada, Croatia, Dubai, Greece, India, Israel, Japan, Nicaragua, the U.K., and South Africa have spayed and neutered over 320,000 feral cats. This annual event is a campaign created by Alley Cat Rescue, An Alliance for Cat Protection, located outside of Washington, DC. Alley Cat Rescue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of all cats: domestic, stray, feral, and wild. Alley Cat Rescue’s award-winning handbook on feral cats and TNR has helped save the lives of thousands of cats.

In participating in the Global Feral Fix Challenge, Paws for a Cause Vet Care plans to work with the community TNR groups to trap-neuter-return feral cats at our clinic throughout the year. After recovering from surgery, cats will be returned to their outdoor homes.
